This item is being brought forward by Ald. Eric Payne in response to a recent pedestrian related accident on W. Moreland Blvd. at Airport Road.  The accident in question happened on October 16, 2018, involving an eastbound vehicle hitting a pedestrian.  Ald. Eric Payne has requested the Department of Public Works look at the intersection and crosswalks and recommend changes that will offer a safer pedestrian crossing.  The Engineering Division has already begun to look at this issue and will report findings in the future.  Engineering staff has informed the Committee that W. Moreland Blvd. will be resurfaced in 2019 and any recommended upgrades can be incorporated in that project.  Engineering is exploring the possibility of upgrading existing pedestrian crossing signing for this area in advance of the 2019 Resurfacing project.  Staff will present findings at the February 18, 2019, Committee meeting.
