Recommendation
Publics Works staff, with support of Ald. Eric and Corey Payne have brought this item forward for consideration. During a few occasions in the past year, staff has observed traffic flow and pedestrian crossings at this intersection. Currently, Michigan Ave has a stop at Washington Ave and vehicles on Washington Ave do not have a stop. During school let out, children going eastbound were observed in the crosswalk crossing Washington Avenue and southbound drivers on Washington were not yielding. Sometime the kids would go back to the crosswalk ramp and try again after several cars not stopping. This condition was observed at other times during the school year. Staff feels that this is an unsafe condition for children. The recommendation from staff is to install an All-Way stop condition at this intersection. Staff is in the process of collecting traffic volume data and will present it at the meeting.
Recommended Motion: Move to approve the installation of an All-Way stop at the intersection of N. Washington Avenue and Michigan Avenue.
