Recommendation

This referral was made by Ald. Boyle by request of local residents adjacent to Summit Avenue.  The request is to lower the posted speed limit to 35 MPH.  Currently Summit Avenue is posted 45 MPH in this section.  Recently, the City jurisdictionally accepted Summit Avenue from the Wisconsin DOT.  Since this is now a city roadway, a lower speed limit is recommended.  Engineering staff had conducted a spot speed study and determined that lowering the posted speed limit from 45 to 35 MPH will not affect the operation of this section of Summit Avenue.  As with any lowering of the speed limit, it is suggested that the police department do a patrol and enforcement of the new speed zone when it is installed.  The Department of Public Works recommends for approval of this item.
