Recommendation

This item was referred by Ald. Rodriguez.  Concerned residents near intersection of Greenfield and Linden have expressed concern about speeding on Greenfield Ave. at Linden St.   The traffic at this intersection is busy during the end of school/school bus pick up times at Hadfield School.  Other traffic, in the area, attempt to avoid the congestion at the school speed down Greenfield Ave at this intersection.  This item was originally presented to the B&G committee in June 2017 and placed on hold until the fall of 2017 in order to conduct a speed study after the Arcadian Avenue project was completed.

Engineering staff has completed a spot speed study on Greenfield Avenue near Linden Street and will present the study to the committee at the November 20, 2017 meeting.  The study information is for the benefit of the committee to give them an idea of the average speeds and if it is an issue.

The Department of Public Works has had a long-standing position that introducing an All Way stop condition at an intersection for the purpose of reducing speeds is not a recommended practice and, therefore, the department will not recommend the placement of an All Way stop at this intersection and recommends no action be taken on this item.
