Title: Adjust the no parking zone in front of the house at 476 NW Barstow. Move the No Parking sign from the power pole to the south side of the Driveway of 476 NW Barstow. (Item was amended at B&G Committee to have ID#17-0502 rescinded instead which is to remove the entire No Parking zone).

Recommendation

This item was brought forward by Ald. E. Payne on behalf of the property owner at 476 NW Barstow who wants the No Parking zone removed from in front of her property. 

 

In 2017, B&G approved Item No. 17-0502 which was to install “No Parking Any Time on the southwest side of NW Barstow Street from 20 feet north of the north property line of 476 to the south property line of 470 NW Barstow Street.”  This item was approved by the B&G committee and by council in April of 2017.  This parking zone was installed by the City in September 2017 after NW Barstow Street was reconstructed.

 

The original reason to establish the No Parking zone in 2017, was to not allow parking around a sharp curve where vehicles in both directions tend to oversteer wide around the curve.  The subject item above is to essentially remove the No Parking zone in front of 476 NW Barstow. 

 

City Public Works staff does not agree with removing this parking zone and recommends to not approve the removal of the zone.
