Title: Please approve the installation of a WE Energies light pole at the corner of Manchester Drive and Mackenzie Drive.
Sponsors: Dean D. Lemke

Recommendation

Concerned residents have requested a street light to be placed at the corner of Manchester Drive and Mackenzie Drive.  Since there is no existing city-owned street lighting this neighborhood, WE Energies would need to install the street light.  Also, there is no aboveground electrical facilities near by which would require excavation to bring power to a street light.  Staff has contacted WE Energies and the approximate cost to the City to install a street light in this intersection would be $5,000 and take approximately 4 months until it is installed.  It should be noted that properties in this subdivision have their own street lamps on private property.  Concerned residents have claimed that owners do not change burnt-out bulbs and the street gets very dark and there is a lack of private lights in proximity of the intersection.  City Engineering staff has collected light readings at the intersection and will be presented at the March 18, 2019, Building and Grounds meeting.  The Department of Public Works feels that if the residents properly maintain their private post-top lights with the proper wattage of bulbs, the lighting levels will increase enough to give the minimum lighting needed at the intersection.
