Recommendation
This item was brought forward by Ald. Browne and originally placed on the August 19, 2019, Building and Grounds agenda and held until October 14, 2019. In discussions with Ald. Browne, it was determined that several issues were of concern; excessive speeding on Springdale Road, drivers drive side-by-side two lanes both northbound and southbound when the street is only suppose to have 1 lane per direction, there are a number of school children crossing at Ruben Drive and Holidale Drive and, with traffic volumes, concerned for their safety and crosswalks and signs should be installed.
Engineering staff did not collect any reliable traffic data in October or November of 2019 and had to break for winter and, after that, there was the Covid-19 restrictions. In July of 2020, engineering conducted a traffic volume count and a spot speed study on the Springdale Road corridor. In September of 2020, staff also did observations on the locations of school bus stop(s) on Springdale Road. A report summarizing all information with some recommendations has been completed and sent to members of the B&G committee for review and general discussion at the October 5, 2020 meeting.
This report will be presented at the October 5, 2020 Building and Grounds meeting. At this time, the Department of Public Works does not have any specific recommendations.
