Recommendation

This item was referred by Ald. McElderry.  Staff does not have any recommendations at this time since it is unknown why the speed limit sign is needed.  Ald. McElderry and the Committee can discuss this item to see if anything is necessary.

In this case, River Hills Park is located west, behind the houses, along River Place Blvd. and does not directly abut to the street.  For a park that is directly adjacent to a street, it is typical to install a “Playground” warning sign with the 15 MPH speed when children are present.  However, in this case, with the park behind the houses and not directly adjacent to the street, a playground + speed sign would not be installed.  Access to the park crosses River Place Blvd. at Parkton Drive with an All-Way stop that was approved in May of 2015 by request, of then, Ald. Perry.

If a playground sign with speed zone is to be considered, 1 set of signs could be placed on Parkton Drive just to the west of River Place Blvd. to inform drivers on the dead-end street going west that a park is near.
